Apple Day

Mark Hix will be the guest of honour at Julian Temperley's Apple Day in Somerset on October 22nd. This year in Somerset they have much to celebrate, a huge apple crop of great quality. Somerset Cider Brandy is now a legal description and on September 13th all 27 member states of the EU voted to confirm Temperley's PGI status (appellation controle). Currently the only apple distillate allowed by EU law to use the term ‘Cider Brandy’ in Europe has to be distilled in Somerset, matured in Somerset and pressed from Somerset vintage apples. To mark this occasion the 20 year old Somerset Cider Brandy has been bottled in a special box with a new label all designed by Damien Hirst.
