Jane Burt - The Happy Cupcake Company

In the words of Jane:

I have always loved baking, right from the moment that I was old enough to hold a whisk, standing on a chair in my Nan's kitchen having fun while learning all those invaluable life skills.

When my own children were little and I was a stay at home mom, I baked for several W.I markets and local shops, it helped me fund my stay at home.

When they went off to school, I gained a degree and went into a more formal profession but I never relinquished my love of baking, it's simply something that I need to do, filling the house with home-made loveliness whilst de-stressing at the same time.

I baked with my own children and am pleased to say that two out of the three are also hooked. My daughter will whip you up a sponge cake whilst she boils the kettle for tea and my eldest son proved invaluable when I opened the café and he still likes nothing better than an afternoon spent baking in the kitchen.

Then three years ago, I took the massive decision to quit my job and bake for a living. I started with a Saturday Stall at the very busy Wells market in Somerset. The stall went from strength to strength and I could be seen there every week for nearly three years. In my quest for lovely cupcake decorations, I spent a lot of time sourcing them and decided to offer them alongside the cakes. We then opened a small café in Lyme Regis, where our home was at the time, adding workshops and increasing the range of decorations.

We needed more room...a decision was made and we took an empty shop in the main street in Lyme and, just like that, our first shop was open!

We have just opened our second shop in Bath and have moved here so that we can get really involved and build up a customer base and baking community like we have in Lyme and we really hope you will join us.

Whats next for us? Watch this space! We don't stay still for long!!

Jane will be hosting 'How to make sugarcraft flowers' at 11am on both Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September. To book a ticket, contact Alice Brinkley.
